Chandeliers – A New Obsession

May 28, 2011 § Leave a comment

With so many beautiful things in the world there is so much to love and obsess over. For now, it is chandeliers. Today I wandered a few showrooms and came across a chandelier, and then a few more, then I almost bought one, and now I can’t stop thinking about how I must have one. As of now, the plan is to get one for myself in September as a birthday present to me.

For those of you who think that chandeliers only resemble femininity and should remain in palaces, I think you’re quite wrong. If you are not striving for a strong feminine look, then you need to strike a balance between feminine and masculine pieces, a glass chandelier being feminine and a black leather armchair being masculine. It’s like pink, you can have pink in a room, without it screaming “pretty princess.”

Beautiful wall mosaic. Its fun and fresh and I like it.

It’s not exactly my taste but I still really appreciate it and I love the idea of a full wall, mosaic mural.

Summer Fireplace Solutions

May 20, 2011 § Leave a comment

Now that we are moving into warmer weather its time to transform the fireplace to the right season. There is no need to leave a dark, ashy fireplace all spring and summer, especially when your fireplace is the focal point in the room. You can fill the fireplace in many ways, my two favorite choices are plants and wood logs. In choosing the wood type I prefer birch because the white bark doesn’t resemble winter seasons like other woods, such as oak, does. But you can get more creative with the wood you use, try spray painting them with a metallic paint, or even try blue or pink (color of the year!) Since it’s not a permanent change, and its rather inexpensive, I say experiment and have fun.

Throw Pillows – Nature Themes

May 20, 2011 § Leave a comment

I like throw pillows for three reasons:

1. They customise a space.

2. They are like art for furniture

3. They provide additional coziness.

Here are a variety of throw pillows I like, all with a common nature theme.

Open Storage in Kitchens

If you have pretty dishes (and love them like I do) you probably don’t wish to hide them away in a cabinet. Solution? Open shelving. It adds more dimension and interest to a room, just make sure you don’t clutter the shelves.

Headboards – Function and Beauty

May 17, 2011 § 1 Comment

Headboard: another pretty thing to spend money on! Its’ not just their beauty that makes them necessary though. A headboard ground the room, and creates a focal point. If you choose a tall headboard it also help add height to the room. When you don’t have a headboard it looks like your bed is missing something, unless you play eye tricks with lots of pillows. But apart from visual benefits, they are functional as they provide a comfy back rest for reading in bed; a pillow just isn’t the same.

Strange Art

There is something about this I really like, but I don’t exactly know the words for it; I think it’s strangeness and expressionless face just intrigues. As some of you may know by now, I like things that make you stop and look and this certainly does.

Apart from the art, I also love the raw wood floors and the use of indigo (one of my favorite colors).
