Stunning Glass Lanterns

September 16, 2011 § Leave a comment

I wondered into a little store in South Pasadena on Mission St. called “Livin’ Art” and to my delight, I found these amazing jewel tone, glass lanterns (among some other beauties as well). Livin’ Art continually stock their lanterns and because they are unique they always have a variety of different designs. I especially love the purple and multicolored ones. They are reasonably priced too, ranging from about $150 to $300.

Moroccan Lanterns

A few weeks ago I got these pretty little lanterns. They are nicer than a few other I have seen before because the cut outs on the bottom makes the fire light dance nicely on the table. I had an outside dinner party recently and I placed them on stone tiles along with short vases of flowers. I have a small dilemma though, to hang or not to hang (for normal indoor use)? Hanging them means loosing that pretty pattern on the table, but perhaps the pattern would be strong enough to reach the walls.. but they may be too small to hang in the first place. ? hmmm…

Chandeliers – A New Obsession

May 28, 2011 § Leave a comment

With so many beautiful things in the world there is so much to love and obsess over. For now, it is chandeliers. Today I wandered a few showrooms and came across a chandelier, and then a few more, then I almost bought one, and now I can’t stop thinking about how I must have one. As of now, the plan is to get one for myself in September as a birthday present to me.

For those of you who think that chandeliers only resemble femininity and should remain in palaces, I think you’re quite wrong. If you are not striving for a strong feminine look, then you need to strike a balance between feminine and masculine pieces, a glass chandelier being feminine and a black leather armchair being masculine. It’s like pink, you can have pink in a room, without it screaming “pretty princess.”

Dimmer Switches – Thursday Tip 3

Dimmer switches add instant ambiance and can transform the mood of a room. It can add romance, elegance, relaxation and make a room more intimate and inviting. Having lights on dimmers is also convenient for when you wake in the night for something such as a glass of water, and can just turn on the lights a little instead of blinding yourself, shocking your recently rested eyes. It’s a good choice for the closet, bedroom and bathroom; three places spent shortly after waking.

Graphic Lamps by Catherine David

March 12, 2011 § Leave a comment

These sophisticated, graphic lamps were desined by Catherine David. There are six different designs, a few of which are printed on the inside of the shade so it can only be viewed when lit. The six designs are David’s Eye Lampada, Grid Design Lampada, White Lampada, Crane Lampada and the Butterfly Lampada. The butterfly design is exceptionally beautiful because it features butterflies that are cut from the shade to become 3D. I also love the unexpected shape of the shade because it adds a little more complexity; it looks as though you could simple unfold it.
